Borges Dão Estate - Quinta de São Simão da Aguieira

The 74-hectare Quinta de São Simão da Aguieira, the largest continuous vineyard in the Dão Region, is in the namesake village of Aguieira, in the municipality of Nelas. The late seventeenth-century manor house once belonged to João Sacadura Botte Corte-Real, the oenologist responsible for the studies that determined the delineation of the Dão Wine Region in 1908.

Over the years, the grapes produced in this terroir have been consistently selected to serve as the raw material for the very best of the region’s wines. This is where we produce our best Dão wines. For Borges, João de Sacadura Botte’s legacy is both a stimulus and a challenge: to ensure the quality of the region’s wines lives on.

The Aguieira winery was extensively refurbished in 2019 and now has increased winemaking capacity and improved processes. The project covered three main areas: the architecture and landscaping, winemaking based on a piecemeal model and facilities adapted to changing weather conditions.
